Admission Criteria:

  • You must have achieved 5 good passes, including mathematics or English, where a good pass is defined as:-
    9-5 in a 9-1 GCSE (for 2017 entry this is English, maths and science GCSE qualifications)
    A*-C in a A*-G GCSE
    Pass or better at a level 2 BTEC
  • In addition to this minimum entry requirement, it is preferable for students to have achieved at least a good pass in any subject that they intend to study at A level, if they have studied it at GCSE.

However, the following subject specific entry requirements will also apply:-

A Level Biology 6 or above in GCSE Science, Additional Science and/or Biology
A Level Chemistry 6 or above in GCSE Science, Additional Science and/or Chemistry
A Level Computer Science 6 or above in GCSE Mathematics
A Level English Language 6 or above in GCSE English and/or English Literature
A Level English Literature 6 or above in GCSE English and/or English Literature
A Level French Grade B or above in GCSE French
A Level Further Mathematics 7 or above in GCSE Mathematics
A Level Law 6 or above in GCSE English
A Level Mathematics 6 or above in GCSE Mathematics
A Level Media Studies 6 or above in GCSE English
A Level Physical Education Grade B or above in GCSE Physical Education
A Level Physics 6 or above in GCSE Science, Additional Science and/or Physics
A Level Spanish Grade B or above in GCSE Spanish

Students must have also demonstrated a willingness to learn. This will be determined from the applicant’s Praising Stars© reports as being all E3s or better and an excellent attendance record.

All external applicants will be subject to appropriate references from the respective schools.

A level courses can be studied at Outwood Post 16 Centre alongside the following vocational courses at North Notts College;

BTEC Level 3 Engineering
AAT Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Accountancy

Outwood Academy Valley and Outwood Academy Portland students will be attending a Post 16 opportunities assembly, during November.

During early December, Outwood Academy Valley and Outwood Academy Portland students will attend an assembly to complete their initial subject choices. Information will be posted home to external students.

In January, subject choices are confirmed. Outwood Academy Valley and Outwood Academy Portland students will attend an assembly. information will be posted home to external students.

There will be induction days in the summer term and following the GCSE exam results day in August, there will be 1 to 1 interviews to confirm your subject choices.
