The course is designed to develop personal responses to observations, experiences, environments and cultures, celebrating their individuality and strengths.
It encourages personal learning through enquiry into Art & Design and enjoyment of its application in the real world, along with the acquisition of lifelong learning and thinking skills. This is done through careful guidance and individual target setting.
We have devised and developed workshops after school to help students develop their knowledge further.
Students will be expected to put up their own exhibitions at the end of Year 1 and Year 2 in preparation for marking.
Creatively minded individuals with enthusiasm for creative thinking and pushing your own boundaries. You must be enthusiastic, prepared to really explore an idea or concept and be able to work with determination and perseverance. You will have timetabled lessons and will also be encouraged to come and use the space in your study and free periods, an equal amount of time is expected to be spent on your studies out of lessons as in lessons.

Extended project with coherent preparatory studies, leading to an appropriate conclusion. Marked internally – some work may be used to support students Year 2 portfolios but Year 1 is purely about building skills, confidence and understanding for Year 2.

Paper issued 1st of February in initial preparatory period of around 8 weeks, 10 hour exam (final piece), 10 hours consecutively over 2 days. Marked internally / externally moderated.
Year 1 and Year 2
All units are internally assessed at regular intervals throughout the year and externally moderated by the Exam Board.
Students will receive formative feedback throughout the course allowing them to reflect upon and refine work.
March / April externally assessed examination.
GCE Art & Design (Fine Art) is an excellent platform for progression to higher education in visual art and design.
At A level, extra tuition is given on further and higher education entry, portfolio preparation and interview technique.
