The AS Extended Project Qualification is challenging and an exciting single piece of work of your choice.
The Extended Project is an award that is held in high regard by universities and employers as a qualification that develops academic planning, independent research, review and critical analysis skills together with essential presentation skills.
In order to be successful you need to be properly prepared for this course. You will need to be prepared to research extensively and be able to write about your topic choice and any other related issues in a critical, analytical and reflective way.
Each student will embark on a largely self-directed and self-motivated project. Students must choose a topic, plan, research, and develop their idea and decide on their finished product.
We encourage creativity and curiosity. A project topic may be directly related to a student’s main study programme, but should look beyond the specification. A finished product may take the form of:
• a research based written report
• a production* (e.g. charity event, fashion show or sports event etc)
• an artefact* (e.g. piece of art, a computer game or realised design)
*A written report must accompany these options.
Students must also record their project process in their Production Log. The process of recording and completing a project is as important as the finished product. Both the Production Log and Product will be assessed.
You will be assessed throughout the course with a final internal assessment.
Your work will be marked internally and moderated externally by the exam board.
The Extended Project will help develop your independent learning skills and provide you with the ability to use your learning experiences to support your application to further or higher education and/or a personal career choice.
