Sociology is the study of society. It allows us to understand social processes and to ultimately improve social policy and welfare.
Sociologists are interested in social stratification, social class, social mobility, culture, religion, secularisation, law and deviance.
If you like to question the major issues affecting all our lives and to understand the factors which influence our cultures and society, then you would enjoy this course. Sociology promotes self-understanding. You will also learn to write effective essays, evaluate research and analyse information.
Students learn about education, methods in context, research methods and families and households along with crime and deviance and Beliefs in society.
Students will sit 3 papers:-
Paper 1 – Education with Methods in Context.
Paper 2 – Topics in Sociology – Families and Households and Beliefs in Society.
Paper 3 – Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods.
This course is a very useful qualification for any occupation which involves working with people such as journalism, law, business management, teaching, nursing and the police.
For those wishing to proceed to higher education, A Level Sociology is useful for the study of subjects such as law, politics, history, English and other social science subjects.
